Put Your Best Fork Forward
Happy National Nutrition Month! Every year, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics designates March as a time to observe healthy eating and create new habits. The theme for 2017 is “Put Your Best Fork Forward,” reminding all of us that we hold the tools to make healthy food choices.
There will always be the temptation to order pizza on a Saturday night or drink a 32-ounce soda from the gas station. Lower temptations and showcase an alternative, and often healthier, choice by planning and prepping your food.
Meal planning and preparation is one of the best ways to put healthy options at your fingertips. Chopping fruits and vegetables ahead of time, keeping a cold bottle of water nearby, and making large food batches to portion out for the week are all ways to make a healthier food environment.
We are faced with many food choices throughout the day–pack a lunch or eat out; order salad or fried chicken; one scoop of ice cream or three. Making healthy food choices isn’t always easy. But if you choose healthier options more often, the occasional splurge will feel like a treat. Start making healthy food choices today to put your best fork forward all year!
